Based on a comprehensive analysis of 5G application scenarios, network architecture, equipment evolution, business development and customer needs, we can see several significant development trends of 5G power supply: power diversification, power supply boosting, power distribution refinement and intelligent operation and maintenance.
Power diversification means that 5G power supply has MIMO (Multiple Input & Multiple Output) function, compatible with multiple inputs such as AC input (mains power, oil engine), solar energy, high voltage DC, etc., and realizes multiple standard outputs at the same time to adapt to network construction needs in various environments.
Power supply boosting means that the availability of traditional 48V power supply architecture has decreased in the 5G era, requiring 5G power supply system to have the ability to boost power supply. Since the energy consumption of 5G main equipment has increased significantly compared with 2G/3G/4G, and 5G sites have more power supply requirements at a distance, if the traditional 48V power supply mode is continued to be used, the cable loss and voltage drop will increase, and the voltage at the input end of the equipment may not be able to meet the normal power supply requirements. Power supply boosting has gradually become an important development trend of 5G power supply.
Power distribution refinement means that 5G power supply can achieve refined power off and distribution, greatly improving the reliability and guarantee capabilities of key services. 5G services are more diversified than 2G/3G/4G services. Different services have different priorities. Hierarchical management of different services can improve network reliability and reduce network operation and maintenance OPEX. Refined power distribution is proposed to meet this demand.
Intelligent operation and maintenance means that when the number of sites increases due to 5G construction, the difficulty of network management and the requirements for manpower allocation are increasing. In order to minimize the cost increase caused by additional manpower and reduce the difficulty of network management, 5G network sites need to realize intelligent operation and maintenance management; as the energy source of the site, the stability and reliability of the power supply are crucial. In addition to being visible, it also needs to be manageable and controllable with the intelligent network management system.
